As we reach the Design Studio 6 Portfolio Submission, the Insitu(action)ist Studio has fully embraced its role as an architectural manifesto in action—a rebellious space of design collaboration, where the verbalisation of architecture holds as much power as its physical construction. Yet, this studio unfolded under extraordinary circumstances, shaped by the limitations and disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a time of enforced isolation, where public space was redefined, the notion of insitu-actionism took on an even more urgent meaning.
With studios, universities, and cities in lockdown, the question of architectural protest, adaptability, and insurgency became more than just theoretical—it was an active condition of working, thinking, and designing remotely. The studio, instead of being constrained, evolved into a distributed network of interventions, operating across digital and physical thresholds.
This portfolio submission is not merely a conclusion but a statement of intent. It represents the collective energy of the studio—bold, provocative, and unapologetically insurgent in its approach to architecture. The pandemic may have kept us physically apart, but it has only reinforced the need for architecture to be an agent of action, resistance, and reinvention.
Well done to all students for the depth of thought, the precision of execution, and the courage to challenge, disrupt, and redefine the role of architecture in a time of unprecedented uncertainty.
