Studio life in lockdown times…

Studio life has taken on a different rhythm during lockdown, with kitchens, bedrooms, and living rooms transforming into makeshift workspaces.

To capture this moment, I asked students to send me photos of their home studio setups, revealing the realities of designing, drawing, and thinking architecture in isolation.

From desks filled with sketches and models to minimal laptop-only workspaces, the images reflect both the adaptability and resilience of the studio. Some students have embraced the chaos of overlapping notebooks, reference books, and coffee cups, whilst others have found unexpected clarity in pared-down setups. Despite the distance, these snapshots remind us that we are still connected through the shared experience of making, problem-solving, and pushing our projects forward—wherever we are.

Lockdown has challenged us to rethink our approach to architectural workspaces, testing new ways of collaborating, communicating, and drawing. Though the physical studio is absent, the energy of the design process remains strong, proving that architectural thinking is never confined to a single space.
