Studio Plasticity: Interim Review DS6

Here’s some moments from our design review today. Well done, all!

Today’s Design Studio 6 Interim Review marked a significant step forward in the evolution of our projects, as students began translating the conceptual studies from DS5 into more resolved architectural proposals. This review was an opportunity to critically assess how initial ideas—rooted in explorations of plasticity, adaptability, and urban transformation—are now taking shape as spatial, material, and programmatic frameworks.

The session was filled with engaging discussions, productive critique, and moments of breakthrough, as students presented their refined proposals, testing the boundaries between speculative design and architectural feasibility. The challenge in DS6 is to maintain the experimental rigor developed in DS5 whilst beginning to address the complexities of architectural resolution, spatial articulation, and tectonic logic. Questions around material choices, structural strategies, spatial sequencing, and environmental considerations took centre stage, pushing each project toward greater clarity and depth.

A huge thank you to Rodney Ng for joining us as a guest critic and offering his insightful perspectives on architectural adaptability, spatial innovation, and material resolution. His feedback challenged students to refine their thinking, push their ideas further, and consider new possibilities for their evolving proposals. We greatly appreciate the time and expertise he shared with the studio.

Well done to everyone for the level of ambition, commitment, and critical thinking demonstrated today. The work presented is evidence of an ongoing dialogue between speculation and resolution, pushing each project toward a refined architectural proposition that retains its experimental edge.
