Architectural Imagination in the Digital Universe

A collaboration between Hamza Shaikh & Drawing Matter

Being part of Vanishing Points: Architectural Imagination in the Digital Universe—a collaboration between architect and design influencer Hamza Shaikh and Drawing Matter at the Roca Gallery in London—has been a compelling exploration of how architectural ideas circulate today. Shaikh, whose conceptual drawings have reached tens of thousands through social media, brings together the work of contemporary peers experiencing a similar digital momentum and places their visions in dialogue with historic precedents from the Drawing Matter archive.

From the elegant precision of Mies van der Rohe to the lyrical compositions of John Hejduk, and from Le Corbusier’s delicate hand-drawn plans to James Gowan’s humorous sketches, the exhibition reveals a lineage of imagination that spans generations. Organised into groups—Layers, Hands, Fictions, Metrics, Abstract, and Perspectives—it creates a framework where technique and medium become lenses through which past and present can meaningfully converge.
